George Charles Lambert was born in Stepney on 15 March 1915. He was educated at St. Williams Senior Approved School, Market Weighton, East Yorkshire. On leaving school he enlisted into the East Yorkshire Regiment at Hull on 19 May 1936. After basic training he served with the regiment in Palestine, March-December 1937. In March 1938 he sailed to India and on 3 May 1943 transferred to the Lincolnshire Regiment. He was with the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment in Burma when he contracted dysentery and was invalided home in May 1944. Lambert was discharged on 31 August 1944 being classed as ‘Permanently unfit for any form of military service due to 40% dysentery. Sold with copied service details.
