William Joseph Green was born and lived in Battersea, and enlisted at Westminster. Serving as a Private in the 1st/16th Battalion London Regiment (Queen’s Westminster Rifles), he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 2 September 1915 and was awarded the 1914-15 Star (not in lot). He was killed in action on the 1st Day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. With copied m.i.c.
