M.S.M. London Gazette 3 June 1919 (Egypt). One of 47 R.A.F. M.S.M’s. for Egypt.

Frederick Edward Dilley, born in 1890 and a Ship’s Supervisor by occupation, served as a Private with the R.A.M.C., 7 September 1914-3 December 1916 and entered service with the M.E.F. on 23 June 1915. He then served with the R.F.C./R.A.F., 4 December 1916-January 1919, employed with R.A.F. Shipping Depots. In January 1919 he was employed as Chief Mechanic, R.A.F. Shipping Depots, “X” Aircraft Depot, Alexandria, Egypt. He was transferred to the Air Force Reserve on 7 July 1919.

Sold with a silver cigarette case, 88 x 82mm., hallmarks for Chester 1910, lid inscribed, ‘F.E.D. 1911’; damaged card boxes of issue for the Great War medals; papers, including: Certificate of Employment during the War (2); Certificate of Transfer to Reserve; letter of reference from Thomson Street Public School, Glasgow, 30 April 1900; letter offering employment as a Shipping Clerk with D. M. Stevenson & Co., Glasgow, 27 Janaury 1919; 2nd Lowland Field Ambulance Overseas Club members booklet (includes Dilley); booklet ‘Psalms and Hymns for Soldiers in the Field’; studio photographs of the recipient in uniform (3); other photographs (3).
