George Frederick Hargreaves enlisted into the Royal Engineers on 24 August 1912. With the 56th Field Company, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 18 August 1914. During the retreat from Mons he was made a prisoner-of-war on 23 August 1914. After been held by the Germans for the duration of the war, he was discharged on 25 February 1919 due to sickness and was awarded the Silver War Badge. Sold with copied m.i.c. and roll and gazette extracts.
