Robert Brown Mackie was born in Avondale, Stratheven, Lanarkshire. A Watchmaker by occupation, he attested for the Royal Engineers at Chatham on 27 February 1900. With them he served in South Africa, 7 December 1901-28 October 1902, and in Somaliland, 28 July 1903-22 December 1904. Mackie was transferred to the Army Reserve on 29 March 1905 and discharged on 26 February 1912. Sold with copied service papers which confirm clasps
