Three: Quarter-Master W. Goodman, Royal Navy

Baltic 1854-55,
unnamed as issued; China 1857-60, no clasp, unnamed as issued; Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., wide suspension (Qr. Mr., H.M.S. Ganges, 20 Yrs.), the last with traces of repair to suspension claw, generally good very fine (3) £400-500

William Goodman was born in Saltash, Cornwall in January 1820 and and appears to have entered the Royal Navy in the rate of Able Seaman in January 1850, when he joined H.M.S. Arethusa. He subsequently served in the Hastings in the Baltic operations of 1855, and in the Amethyst as a Captain of the Mast in the China operations of 1857-60 (TNA ADM 171/20 and ADM 171/31 refer), and was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in May 1871.
