Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 1 clasp, Alexandria 11th July (H. Sayer, Ch. Offr. C.G., H.M.S. Penelope) edge nicks, good very fine £130-150

Henry Thomas Sayer was born in Birchington, Kent in January 1837 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 1st Class in January 1854. Having then gained advancement to Chief Boatswain’s Mate in December 1863, he transferred to the Coast Guard in the following year and was one of eight Chief Officers borne on the books of H.M.S. Penelope during the Egypt operations of 1882. He was pensioned ashore in January 1892 and died at Gillingham, Kent in April 1915; sold with a file of research, including copied service record and death certificate.
