Hubert Searle was born in Ryde, Isle of Wight. A labourer by occupation and a member of the 3rd Battalion Hampshire Regiment (Militia), he attested for regular service with the Hampshire Regiment on 1 June 1891, aged 18 years, 5 months. With the regiment he served in South Africa, January 1900-September 1902 and Malta, September 1903-March 1904. He was discharged on 31 March 1904. Also awaded the King’s South Africa Medal with two clasps. Sold with copied service papers.
