William Blake was born in New Zealand on 18 February 1877. He enlisted into the Police on 14 February 1907, was promoted to Sergeant on 1 January 1924 and Senior Sergeant on 1 March 1935. Senior Sergeant Blake retired on 21 April 1939. For his services in the Police Force, he was awarded the New Zealand Police L.S. & G.C. in 1921, a clasp in 1929 and a second clasp in 1938.
