William Inglis was born on 13 October 1874. During the Great War he was an Assistant Provost Marshal, N. & M.E.F., from 14 September 1914 to February 1915. As a Staff Sergeant-Major on the Instructional Staff of the 2nd Military District, he was awarded the Commonwealth of Australia M.S.M. Inglis was appointed a Lieutenant in the Australian Imperial Force in August 1915 and served with the 32nd Battalion (South Australia and Western Australia) A.I.F. As a Lieutenant with the 32nd Battalion he was mentioned in the despatches of General Sir A. J. Murray, C-in-C Egypt Expeditionary Force. Inglis was promoted to Captain in April 1916 and to Major with the 47th Battalion (Queensland) A.I.F. in November 1916. As a Major he was awarded the Military Cross. He was later with the 5/45th Infantry and then was a Captain, Area Officer at Camperdown Training Area in May 1918. In the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette of 17 November 1921, it was announced that ‘William Inglis, M.C. (had been ) re-appointed a Warrant Officer Class II, Instructional Staff .... and is promoted to the position of Quartermaster and Honorary Major, and appointed an Area Officer of a Training Area ....’ Quartermaster and Honorary Major Inglis was placed on the Retired List on account of medical unfitness on 20 April 1927. He died on 10 January 1941. Sold with copied research.
