Edward James Lucas was in Royal Service for very many years. In 1909, when he was a Footman to T.R.H. the Duke and Duchess of Connaught, he received the Royal Victorian Medal in Bronze on the occasion of H.M. King Edward VII’s visit to Malta. In 1931 Lucas received the Royal Household Faithful Service Medal for twenty years’ service. He subsequently received the ‘Thirty Years’ clasp in 1941 and the ‘Forty Years’ clasp in 1951. He was awarded the Royal Victorian Medal in Silver in the 1949 New Years Honours, as Steward at Marlborough House.

Sold with a quantity of original papers, including: R.V.M. Bestowal Document (2), dated 24 April 1909 and another, dated 1 January 1949; Buckingham Palace Invitation to receive the R.V.M. from the King, dated 11 May 1949; Award Certificates for the Jubilee 1935; Coronation 1937 and Coronation 1953 medals; forwarding slip for the ‘Forty Years clasp; document re. the award of the Medal of the Order of Isabella the Catholic, dated 23 May 1908; award documents re. the Danish Medal of Recompense 1st Class, dated 5 January 1935, with Buckingham Palace letter giving Restricted Permission to wear; souvenir card re. Queen Alexandra’s Christmas Dinner, 1902; Christmas Card 1954, signed ‘Elizabeth R’; several ‘Buckingham Palace’ menu cards; Royal Household Faithful Service Medal booklet. With copied research.
