Charles Forbes Blane, born on 28 September 1859; commissioned a Lieutenant in the Royal Horse Artillery, 31 January 1878; advanced to Captain in May 1886; Major in April 1896 and Lieutenaant-Colonel in September 1903. Granted the brevet of Colonel in September 1906. Retired from the Royal Artillery on 12 September 1908. Recalled for service in the Great War, he served in France/Flanders, 15 March 1915-26 March 1917; in command of 62 Brigade R.F.A., 15 March-12 November 1915; on the Staff as Brigadier-General, 33 Divisional Artillery, 13 November 1915-20 March 1917, and was wounded. For his services in the Great War he was twice mentioned in despatches and awarded the C.M.G.
