The commando “fighting knife”, miniature dress medals and other memorabilia appertaining to Captain G. J. Jones, No. 6 Commando, late Hampshire Regiment, the former by Wilkinson, by appointment to E.II.R., with scrolled blade inscriptions, ‘No. 6 Commando’ and ‘Capt. G. Jones’, complete with metal-tipped leather scabbard; together with his dress miniature medals (6), comprising 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Italy Star, France & Germany Star, Defence and War Medals, M.I.D. oakleaf, in glazed display frame; and original documentation including his Mention in Despatches certificate, in the name of ‘Lieutenant G. J. Jones, The Hampshire Regiment’, dated 27 April 1944, in glazed display frame; Old Comrades Association of The Army Commandos membership booklet, dated 9 March 1949; Under-Secretary of State for Defence (Army) forwarding slip for his 1939-45 awards; a wartime letter and group photograph, and official War Office letter on retirement, dated 16 July 1946, generally in good condition (Lot) £400-500

An accompanying handwritten note states that Captain Gerald Jones was taken P.O.W. at Tebourba, North Africa, while serving in the 2nd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment, ‘before escaping and rejoining the Army in No. 6 Troop Commando’ - the action fought at Tebourba in December 1942 resulted in the award of the Victoria Cross to Captain H. W. Le Patourel, 2/Hampshires.
