Jubilee 1897, silver (F. V. G. Bird, Col. Commdt. R.M.L.I. June 1897) nearly very fine £80-100

Frederick Vincent Godfrey Bird was born on 1 July 1842, and entered the Royal Marines on 29 March 1860. He served in the Battalion of Royal Marines sent to South Africa for special service in the Zulu war, 1879, but does not appear to have qualified for the Medal. He served as Assistant Adjutant-General, Royal Marines, August 1893 to 10 May 1897 (Jubilee Commemoration Medal). Bird was appointed Colonel Commandant on 10 May 1897 and died in 1899. See Lots 303 and 1055 for related family medals.
