Mohamed Yusoff bin Nordin was born in Kuala Lumpur on 10 March 1930. He attended school in Malacca and after working as a Labourer in the Public Works Department in Kuala Lumpur, joined the R.A.S.C. on 23 March 1950. He qualified as a Baker and was eventually promoted Corporal.
