Thomas William Fox was born in Dublin on 30 June 1830. Studying at Trinity College Dublin, he gained the degrees of B.A. and M.B. in 1852. Entering the Army Medical Service as an Assistant Surgeon on the Staff in July 1852, he was posted to the 52nd Foot in May 1853 and the 14th Light Dragoons in May 1855. Posted to the Staff in March 1858, he was promoted to Surgeon in September 1860. He transferred to the Royal Engineers in August 1863. Fox was appointed a Surgeon Major in the Army Medical Department in July 1872, Brigade Surgeon in November 1879, Deputy Surgeon General in June 1880 and Surgeon General in May 1887. Placed on Retired Pay in February 1888, he died at Rochester on 28 March 1908. On service with the 14th Light Dragoons in the Persian Campaign of 1857, he was present at the bombardment of Mohumrah. Sold with copied service papers.
