Candahar 1842 (Asst. Surgeon G. Rae, Horse Arty.) fitted with original steel clip and straight bar suspension, nearly extremely fine and scarce £800-1000

George Rae was born on 30 January 1811. LRCS Ed. 1836; Assistant Surgeon, 14 March 1837; Surgeon, 1 January 1851; Surgeon Major, 1 February 1859. Retired 9 February 1859 and died 25 April 1884.

Rae served with the Horse Artillery, and with Shah Shooja’s force in Afghanistan, from the first occupation of the country by the Army of the Indus 1838, until the return of the last Division
via Scinde in 1843. He was present in the actions at Quetta, Kelat-i-Ghilzie, in Zemindawar, and on the Urgundah, near Candahar, and in the Kojuck, at Lahore in 1846-47. Medals for Ghuznee 1839 and Candahar 1842.
