Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 2 clasps, The Nile 1884-85, Abu Klea (Surgn. Maj. F. Ferguson, M.D. Med. Staff) nearly extremely fine £800-1000

The Army Medical Department was represented at Abu Klea by 10 surgeons under the overall command of Surgeon-Major Ferguson.

Frederick Ferguson was born in Dublin on 2 September 1840. He entered the service as a Staff Assistant Surgeon on 14 April 1863, and with the 15th (East Yorkshire) Regiment from September 1868. He was present as the senior medical officer at Abu Klea and the reconnaissance to Mettemeh, for which he was mentioned in despatches and received promotion to Brigade Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel. He retired in May 1894 and died at Camberly on 10 March 1915.
