Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 2 clasps, The Nile 1884-85, Abu Klea (1067 Pte. J. Hampton, 2/Essex R.) light pitting from star, otherwise very fine £500-600

1 officer and 53 other ranks of the Essex Regiment served on the Nile in the Mounted Infantry Camel Regiment, of whom the officer and 21 other ranks fought at Abu Klea.

James Hampton was born at Nazing, Waltham Abbey, Essex, and enlisted for the 44th Brigade at South Weald on 17 April 1879, aged 22. He served in Egypt from July 1884 to September 1885, and was ‘present in the action at Abu Klea, 17.1.85, and at Gubat, 19.1.85’. He was discharged on 16 April 1895. Sold with copy discharge papers.
