Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 2 clasps, The Nile 1884-85, Abu Klea (2808 Pte. J. Moffatt, 1/Rl. Sco. Fus.) edge bruise, otherwise nearly extremely fine £500-600

1 officer and 27 other ranks of the Royal Scots Fusiliers served in the Mounted Infantry Camel Regiment on the Nile, of whom the officer and 21 other ranks fought at Abu Klea.

James Moffatt joined the Army at Birmingham on 3 July 1874, aged 19, and was posted to the 1/9th Regiment the following month. He transferred to the 1/6th Regiment in November 1874 and served with them in India until September 1880, when he returned home to the Army Reserve. He joined the 2/21st Royal Scots Fusiliers in February 1881 and joined the battalion in the Transvaal, returning home in November 1881. He transferred to the 1st Royal Scots Fusiliers in February 1882, serving with the detachment from this battalion on the Nile Expedition of 1884-85. He was promoted to Corporal in October 1885 and discharged, free, on 9 July 1886. Sold with muster details.
