Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 2 clasps, The Nile 1884-85, Abu Klea (2530 Pte. J. Davies, 2/Dragn. Gds.) edge bruising, otherwise better than very fine £500-600

2 officers and 43 other ranks of the 2nd Dragoon Guards served in the Heavy Cavalry Regiment on the Nile, of whom 2 officers and 38 other ranks fought at Abu Klea.

John Davies was born in Manchester and enlisted for the 2nd Dragoon Guards at Canterbury on 21 July 1883, a groom by trade, aged 21 years 2 months. He transferred to the 4/Rifle Brigade whilst stationed in India on 1 May 1889 and served in Burma from that date until 28 January 1890. He was discharged on 20 July 1895. Sold with copy discharge papers which make no mention of any medal entitlement for his service in Burma.
