Three: Private J. W. Moody, Berkshire Regiment and Imperial Yeomanry

Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 2 clasps, The Nile 1884-85, Suakin 1885 (41/1806 Pte. J. Moody, 1/Berks. 3 officers and 35 other ranks of the Berkshire Regiment served in the Camel Corps on the Nile, attached to the Tansport Department. Only 2 officers and 2 other ranks had clasps for both the Nile and Suakin 1885.

Joseph William Moody was born in Islington, London, and enlisted for ‘General service’ at Westminster on 29 August 1879, aged 19. Posted to the 49th Regiment (later 1/Berkshires) he served in Egypt in 1882, was attached to the Transport Department of the Camel Corps on the Nile Expedition in 1884-85, and was with Headquarters Staff during the Suakin operations in 1885. He was discharged from the Berkshire Regiment at Reading on 28 August 1885. Moody re-enlisted for service with the Imperial Yeomanry on 23 February 1901, and served in South Africa from 23 March 1901 to 4 August 1902. He was slightly wounded in the right thigh at Rhenosterspruit on 30 November 1901, and returned fit for duty on 25 January 1902. He was finally discharged on 11 August 1902.
