A Second World War ‘Burma’ M.M. group of five awarded to Sepoy Falatu Ram, 17th Dogra Regiment

Military Medal, G.VI.R. (14743 Sep., Dogra R.) impressed naming; 1939-45 Star; Burma Star; War and India Service Medals, mounted court style for wear, very fine (5) £600-800

M.M. London Gazette 22 March 1945. ‘No. 14743 Sepoy, 17th Dogra Regiment, Indian Army’.

Recommendation states: ‘This Sepoy belongs to the medical platoon of his battalion. Between 18 Sep 44 and 22 Sep 44, when a road block was established at M.S. 139 on the Tongzang-Tiddim road the position was several times subjected to heavy fire from hostile dischargers and machine guns. Sepoy Falatu Ram worked fearlessly and ceaselessly throughout, dressing wounded in the open and carrying them to cover. Again between 2 Oct 44 and 5 Oct 44 at M.S. 158 another road block was several times the target for enemy machine guns, grenades and artillery; this Sepoy’s fearlessness was noted by the medical officer and the officer commanding the road block. He remained in the open under heavy fire regardless of his safety, so long as a casualty required attention. His unselfish devotion to duty and his constant cheerfulness greatly cheered the wounded, and an example to all involved in both operations’. Sold with copied extracts.
