Military Cross, G.V.R., unnamed; 1914-15 Star (93718 Sjt., R.F.A.); British War and Victory Medals (2 Lieut.) mounted for wear, good very fine (4) £700-800

M.C. London Gazette 15 October 1918. ‘2nd Lt., R.F.A., Spec. Res.’ ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when at liaison with the infantry. He advanced with the first line infantry through heavy shell fire, and the information which he brought back as to the position of the infantry and of the enemy was invaluable, and enabled his battery to come into action at once. He displayed great coolness and initiative’.

Sergeant John B. Stokes, R.F.A., entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 1 June 1915. He was advanced from Officer Cadet to 2nd Lieutenant by
