A Great War D.S.O. pair awarded to Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel E. A. Roberts, Indian Medical Service

Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R., silver-gilt and enamel, complete with top bar; 1914 Star, with copy clasp (Capt., I.M.S.) mounted for wear with the ribbons of the British War and Victory Medals, the latter with an M.I.D. oakleaf emblem; together with a mounted set of four miniature dress medals, the D.S.O. in 18ct. gold and enamel, nearly extremely fine (6) £800-1000

Edmund Arthur Roberts was born on 15 January 1879, the son of the Reverend A. J. Roberts, Vicar of Tidebrook. Studying medicine at King’s College, London, he became a M.R.C.S. and L.R.C.P. in 1903. Entering the Indian Medical Service he was commssioned a Lieutenant in January 1904, Captain in January 1907, Major in July 1915, and received the brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel on 1 Janaury 1919. He accidently drowned whilst bathing at Elliot’s Beach, Madras, on 5 September 1921. Sold with copied m.i.c. which confirms clasp to 1914 Star and previous service with the 41st Dogras.
