David Ruxton was born in Umtali in March 1924 and enlisted in the Southern Rhodesia Forces in September 1942. Initially posted to the Southern Rhodesia Infantry, he transferred to the Reconnaissance Regiment that December, in which unit he remained employed until transferring to the South African Artillery in September 1943. Embarked for Italy in April 1944, he served there until September 1945, when, on medical grounds, he was embarked for South Africa. Ruxton was discharged at Pretoria in January 1946, all but his Africa Service Medal being issued unnamed by the Rhodesian authorities, and died in London in May 1951.
