Arthur William Bassett was born in 1910. He enlisted into the Royal Regiment of Artillery at Maidstone, Kent on 29 April 1929. With the Artillery he served in Malaya, February 1932-March 1935; Gibraltar, March-October 1935; Egypt, October 1935-February 1936; Palestine, February-September 1936; Gibraltar, September 1936-March 1941; Middle East, March 1941-November 1943; North West Europe, March 1945-September 1947, and Singapore, May 1949-July 1950. He was discharged as a Warrant Officer Class 2 having completed his first period of engagement on 27 September 1952. Bassett was appointed a Constable in the Army Department Constabulary in April 1951 and served in that rank until May 1968 when he resigned.

Sold with Regular Army Certificate of Service; a photograph album with over 140 photos, showing places of interest and artillery guns etc; Ministry of Defence Police Number badges - No. ‘679’ (3); ribbon bar; other badges; sports running medal 1950; silver hallmarked medal for Relay Mile 2nd, ‘A.A.A. Malaya 1934’; letter confirming pension; two letters regarding Police service.
