Edward Munday was born on 25 September 1890. Educated at Felsted School and the University of Cambridge, and a former member of the School Corps and University O.T.C., he applied for a commission in the infantry in September 1914, being a Schoolmaster at the time. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 11th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers and entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 25 September 1915. In April 1916 Captain Munday was wounded in action, receiving a gun-shot wound to the left shoulder, necessitating his evacuation to England and treatment at the 3rd Southern Hospital, Oxford. Returning to active service with the battalion, he attained the rank of Major in February 1917 and was wounded for a second time on 12 April 1918, receiving a gun-shot wound to his back, for which he was invalided to England and treatment at the Somerville Hospital. After further service at Archangel, North Russia, he was gazetted out of the service on 24 July 1919. Sold with copied service papers and m.i.c.
