Robert Smith first entered the French theatre of war in early July 1915.

Henry T. Collom first entered the French theatre of war in late July 1915, where he served in 96th Field Company, R.E. (regimental records refer). Accordingly, he would have served on the Somme from July to October 1916, including operations in Delville Wood, Guillemont, Flers-Courcelette and Le Transloy. So, too, in operations in Ypres and Cambrai in the following year, and at St. Quentin and Rosieres during the German Spring Offensive in 1918.
