George Parkin enlisted in February 1915 and first entered the French theatre of war in mid-July 1915, when attached to the Inland Water Transport, R.E. He was subsequently discharged as a result of sickness in February 1917, his MIC entry further confirming that he applied for a replacement Silver War Badge in May 1918.
