Hilary Thomas Buss was born in Southampton. A Clerk by occupation and a member of the 6th Battalion K.R.R.C., he attested for service with the Liverpool Regiment at Stratford on 13 August 1913, aged 17 years, 10 months. He deserted from the 1st battalion in February 1914 but rejoined his unit in August, entering the France/Flanders theatre of war on the 12th of that month. On active service in France, 12 August 1914-7 January 1915 and 31 May 1915-27 September 1915, he received a gun shot wound to both thighs on 25 September 1915. On 25 October 1917 he was discharged to a commission in the R.F.C. but was killed in an aeroplane accident on 21 January 1918. Sold with memorial plaque slip and copied m.i.c. and service papers.
