The individually mounted group of three miniature dress medals awarded to Major D. Greene, 43rd Light Infantry

South Africa 1834-53, a contemporary struck piece, the disk set within a silver mount, this engraved, ‘Captn. Greene, 43rd Lt. Infy.’, with silver buckle on ribbon; Turkey, Order of Medjidie, silver, gold and enamel, with gold buckle on ribbon; Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue, with silver buckle on ribbon, the three miniatures in a fitted leather case by Garrard, Haymarket, London, the lid bearing the letters, ‘D.G.’, extremely fine, attractive (3) £250-300

Dawson Cornelius Greene gained his first commission by purchase on 3 July 1840; purchasing his Lieutenancy on 14 January 1842 and Captaincy on 11 December 1849. With the 43rd Regiment he served in the Kaffir War of 1851-53. Promoted to Major on 2 November 1855, he retired on 24 July 1857.
