Memorial Shield, silvered base metal shield bearing at its base a badge of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, inscribed, ‘The Great War 1914-1919 in Memory of A. Kitson. Presented with Gratitude by the people of Armitage’, the shield set on a wooden plaque, 175 x 133mm., good condition £40-60

Arthur Kitson was born in Bloxwich, Staffordshire and enlisted at Hednesford. Serving with the 1st Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers, he was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 27 August 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
