Hong Kong Plague 1894 (Private R. Heath, S.L.I.) edge bruising, otherwise good very fine £900-1100

Richard Heath was born in Bessington, Shrewsbury, Shropshire. A Gardener by occupation and a member of the 3rd Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry, he attested for the Shropshire Light Infantry on 9 September 1891, aged 20 years. With the regiment he served in Hong Kong, December 1892-December 1894, and India, December 1894-February 1899. He was transferred to the Army Reserve in February 1899 but was recalled in October the same year and served in South Africa, November 1899-August 1902, being discharged on 8 September 1903. For his services he was awarded the Hong Kong Plague Medal; the Queen’s South Africa Medal with clasps for Cape Colony, Paardeberg, Driefontein and Johannesburg, and the King’s South Africa Medal with two clasps. Sold with copied service papers.
