Ashantee 1873-74, 1 clasp, Coomassie (J. H. Llewhellin. Car: Mate. H.M.S. Druid. 73-74) good very fine £300-350

James Harries Llewhellin was born in Pembrokeshire on 31 January 1842, and entered the Royal Navy on 19 September 1871 for 10 years Continuous Service, joining H.M.S. Druid as a Shipwright and Caulker’s Mate in February 1872. Advanced to Carpenter’s Mate in March 1874, he was discharged to H.M.S. Pembroke in May 1874; to H.M.S. Diamond in July 1875; and to H.M.S. Flora in October 1878. Whilst in Flora he re-engaged for a further 10 years C.S. from 19 September 1881.
