Edward C. Mallory was born in 1821 at Poole, Dorset. He had been a Volunteer in H.M.S. Britannia but joined H.M.S. Childers, as a Clerk, at Portsmouth on 18 April 1839, aged 18. He served in Childers on the China station until he died at Whampoa on 17 January 1844.
