A fine Caucasian Shasqua, the slightly curved 84cm blade back-edged at the point and cut with two narrow fullers to each side, the lower one extending to the point, on both sides of the blade at the forte appear cartouches in heavy gold overlay having beaded borders and filled with Arabic script including the date 1322AH (1904AD) and a name presumably that of the owner, ‘Morteza Ali, the son of Sultan Hussain’, also a short engraved inscription in Cyrillic, characteristic hilt encased in nielloed silverwork, embossed, deeply chased and engraved with typical floral patterns within panels, nielloed floral borders with beaded edges, the back of the pommel chased in Arabic with the word ‘Allah’, and pierced for a sword-knot, complete with its wood scabbard covered with black leather having top locket, two suspension mounts and ornate chape all decorated with silver niello work en-suite with the hilt, the backs of the mounts with typical simple floral scrolls in niello work, the chape being also dated 1322AH, scabbard leather a little chipped and worn along the lower back edge at the chape otherwise in good condition overall £2000-2500
