John George Huntley Paterson was born in July 1920, being commissioned into the Gordon Highlanders in December 1939, with which regiment he served until December 1952, by which time he had attained the rank of Major. He was subsequently seconded to O.T.C. H.Q. Staff, Aberdeen University.
