George Henry Denne Bolton was born in February 1916 and educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He was ordained into the Church of England in 1939 and served at Armagh 1939-42, joining the army as a Chaplain with an Emergency Commission in January 1942. Post War he accepted a Short Service Commision as Chaplain to the Forces, 4th Class, being promoted to 3rd Class in February 1960, before retiring in February 1967. He subsequently worked as Assistant Chaplain to H.M. Prison Wandsworth 1967, H.M.Prison Birmingham 1967-69, and Chaplain to the British Community on the Algarve, Portugal 1971-74.
