Robert Lusk Gillies was killed in action in the last few days of the Defence of Singapore, sometime between 2 and 11 February 1942, whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. At the time of his death he was 24 years of age and his name is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.
