Francis James Johnston was born in Birkenhead on 26 August 1928. He was educated at Birkenhead Prep. School; Old Hall School, Wellington, Shropshire, Rugby School and the Royal Military Academy. He was granted a regular commission in the Coldstream Guards on 22 December 1948 and was posted to the 3rd Battalion, serving in Malaya, August 1949-Setember 1950. He was promoted Lieutenant in December 1950 and Temporary Captain in November 1952. Posted to the 2nd Battalion he served with the B.A.O.R., November 1952-July 1955, being promoted to Captain in December 1954. Further service at Home followed, being advanced to Temporary Major in March 1958. He retired to the R.A.R.O. with the rank of Major in 1 October 1959. Sold with a quantity of copied service papers and other research. Medal in card box of issue.
