John C. Clark was born in 1893. He attested for service in the 1st/20th Battalion London Regiment on 1 September 1914 and entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 9 March 1915. He was later transferred to the Royal West Kent Regiment and was on attachment to the King’s African Rifles. Whilst on service in Africa, he was reported as having been accidentally wounded on 23 August 1917, for which he was sent to the hospital at Mingoyo, being discharged on 5 September. He was discharged from the Royal West Kent Regiment on 8 May 1919 due to sickness. In addition to the above he was awarded the 1914-15 Star; Silver War Badge and a Wound Stripe. In the Second World War he was a Captain in the 3rd County of London Cadet Battalion

Sold with a wealth of original papers, including a letter of appreciation from his employers upon ‘joining up’ in September 1914; three letters from the Colonial Office re. his wound; other papers re. his service with the K.A.R.; Soldier’s Pay Book; Soldier’s Demobilization Account; Protection Certificate; Discharge Certificate; receipts re. the purchase of the house at 15 Acacia Road, Beckenham, 1927; Certificate permitting the wearing of uniform as Captain of a Cadet battalion, 1945. Together with cloth and metal ‘pips’, ‘KAR’ title, and copied m.i.c. and S.W.B. roll extract.
