George Algar was born in Hackney and lived and enlisted at Bethnal Green. He served initially with the 3rd/20th London Regiment. Serving with the 2nd/4th London Regiment, he was killed in action on 26 October 1917. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
