John Hibbert was born in Manchester and enlisted in the Rifle Brigade direct from the 4th (Militia) Battalion, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, in April 1895, aged 19 years. Posted to the 1st Battalion in Singapore in October of the following year, he went to serve in Malta and Crete prior to being embarked for South Africa, where he qualified for the above described Medals & clasps. Hibbert was placed on the Army Reserve in March 1903 and was finally discharged in April 1907.
