This lot was sold as part of a special collection, The Collection of Medals to the Cheshire and Manchester Regiments, Rifle Brigade and Royal Green Jackets formed by the late David Boniface.

Anthony Neal was born in Somerstown, London and enlisted in the Rifle Brigade in March 1856, aged 19 years. In his subsequent career of 21 years with the Colours, he witnessed active service in the Lucknow operations during the Indian Mutiny (Medal & clasp), and on the North West Frontier (Medal & clasp). He was finally discharged in March 1878.
