Militia L.S. & G.C. notified in Army Order 27 of February 1905.

James Anderson was born in about 1858 in the Parish of St Cuthbert’s, Edinburgh. He appears to have enlisted into the 75th Foot (No. 1743) and transferred to the 91st Foot (No. 2609) on 28 May 1879, serving with the 91st in Zululand. The exact dates of his Army service are not known but he attested for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Own Edinburgh Royal Garrison Artillery Militia on 5 December 1881, stating at that time that had no previous military or naval service. He was subsequently present at Training in every year from 1881 to 1907, a period of 27 years. He received his L.S. & G.C. medal in 1905 and was finally discharged on termination of the period of his engagement on 5 December 1907, with an Exemplary Character. Whilst these two medals have been held as a pair since at least 1965 there remains some doubt that they are to one and the same recipient. Sold with copy Militia attestation papers.
