(46587 Serjt. W. Waller, R.G.A.); Meritorious Service Medal, G.VI.R., 2nd issue (B.Q.M. Sjt. W. Waller, R.A.) the first three mounted from triple buckle bar, pin lacking, light contact marks, therefore very fine, the last extremely fine (4) £450-500

William Waller was born at Norwich, Norfolk, on 16 December 1863. He joined the Royal Artillery at Sunderland on 18 January 1885 and served a total of 21 years, of which nearly 20 years were in India. As a Gunner in No.1 Battery, 1st Brigade, Eastern Division, R.A., he served in the Burmese Expeditions of 1885-89 (Medal with 2 Clasps), and later in the Hazara Expedition of 1891 (Clasp). He was promoted Sergeant in September 1892, and later served on the Punjab Frontier 1897-98, in the Samana and Tirah Expeditions (Medal with 3 clasps). He was awarded the L.S. & G.C. medal with gratuity in 1903 (A.O. 68 of 1 April 1903) and recommended for the M.S.M. and Annuity on 17 March 1905. He was discharged in the rank of Battery Quartermaster Sergeant, on termination of his engagement on 15 January 1906. By Army Order 122 of 1938, dtaed 30 June, Waller was finally awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with Annuity. William Waller died on 30 April 1939, aged 66.
