Diary - the Journal of Lieutenant-Colonel F. A. Anley, Royal Artillery, in the Crimea, September 1855 - February 1856, leather cover, part of cover cut away, some wear and tear elsewhere, fairly good condition £150-200

Lieutenant-Colonel Frederick Augustus Anley entered the Royal Artillery as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1854. Serving in the Crimea from March 1855, he was present with the siege train in the trenches before Sebastopol during the bombardments of 9 April, 6 and 17 June, 17 August and 5 September. For his services he was mentioned in despatches and awarded the Sardinian Al Valore Militare. During the supression of the Indian Mutiny he was present at the repulse of the mutineers at Mooltan, 31 August 1858. As a Captain based at Woolwich, he was awarded the Royal Humane Society bronze medal for a successful rescue effected in Regent’s Park on 4 May 1865 (R.H.S. Case No. 17,488). He attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1881.
