Mercantile Marine Service Association Medal, silver, reverse inscribed, ‘Montague H. Morle, risked his life in succouring starving crew of American schooner May E. Welmore, Dec. 7 1888’, silver buckle on ribbon; Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society, Marine Medal, 3rd type, silver (M. H. Morle, Chf. Offcr. S.S. “British Princess” for humane services to schooner “Mary L. Wentmore” Dec. 7 1888) silver buckle on ribbon, in case of issue, note variation of ship’s name, first with edge bruise, very fine and better (2) £500-600

‘A Vote of Thanks to Captain E. H. Freeth, S.S.
British Princess, for having sent a boat in bad weather to assist the schooner Mary L. Wentmore, which was in distress for want of provisions, on the 7th December, 1888. A Silver Medal and Vote of Thanks to Mr Montague H. Morle, chief officer of the British Princess, for having gone with a boat’s crew to assist the schooner above mentioned, which was a work of difficulty owing to the heavy sea which was running, and took some time to accomplish. Mr Morle was knocked overboard while getting away from the vessel, but got back into the lifeboat. £1 each was voted to six seamen who formed the boat’s crew and so ably assisted the chief officer in effecting the above mentioned humane service’ (Ref.
