‘On the 22nd July, 1880, at St. Andrew’s, Fife, a young lady whilst bathing was carried out of her depth by the tide, and being unable to swim, was in imminent danger of drowning. Miss Westley plunged in to her assistance, and succeeded in bringing the lady to shore, a distance of fifty yards’ (Ref. R.H.S. Case No. 21,007; Acts of Gallantry, Vol. 2, p.28).
